Hardscape installation demos to be at GIE+EXPO

Landscapers attending GIE+EXPO 2011 will have the opportunity to upgrade their registration to include eight live hardscape installation demonstrations, as well as a workshop on adding hardscape installation to their line of services.

GIE+EXPO, which is sponsored by the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) and Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS), will be Oct. 27-29 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Hardscape Demonstrations

For a $25 upgrade fee, lawn and landscape professionals will be able to attend the eight live hardscape demonstrations, where they can learn how to:

·Install segmental retaining walls

·Install interlocking concrete pavers

·Add low-voltage lighting to hardscape projects

·Install permeable interlocking concrete pavement

·Construct water features

·Install steps, columns and seat walls

·Build an outdoor room

·Clean and seal concrete pavers

Thursday, Oct. 27

10-11:15 a.m. – Segmental Retaining Wall Installation Fundamentals

Noon-1:15 p.m. – Interlocking Concrete Paver Installation and Speciality Tools for Hardscape Installations

1:30-2:45 p.m. – Low-Voltage Lighting for Hardscape Installations

3-4:15 p.m. – Construction Best Practices for Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement

Friday, Oct. 28

10-11:15 a.m. – Enhancing Hardscape Projects with Water Features

Noon-1:15 p.m. – Top Hats and Tuxedos: Steps, Columns and Seat Walls for Residential Hardscapes

1:30-2:45 p.m. – Building the Outdoor Room

3-4:15 p.m. – Cleaning and Sealing Concrete Pavers

Hardscape Workshop

For a $50 upgrade fee, attendees can learn in a classroom setting about “Adding Hardscape Installation to Your Company’s Success.” The workshop, presented by Pat McCrindle, MLPS Paver Systems, will be offered both Thursday, Oct. 27, and Friday, Oct.28, 10-11:30 a.m. (Repeats the same topic; select Session A or C when registering.) This upgrade also includes admission to the eight live Hardscape Demonstrations.

Machine-Assisted Paver Installation Demonstrations

In addition, as part of the regular GIE+EXPO admission, professionals can attend HNA’s machine-assisted paver installation demonstrations. During these sessions, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Oct. 27 and 28, 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., attendees will watch and learn how mechanized installation of interlocking concrete pavements can increase crew efficiency and improve their bottom line for commercial and larger residential projects. Used as the bedding layer for permeable interlocking concrete pavements (PICP), No. 8 stone is placed with mechanical screeding equipment, and mechanical paver placement equipment sets PICP pavers during this demonstration. Chuck Taylor, Oldcastle Architectural, will be the presenter.

Registration Details

Pre-registration for a three-day pass to GIE+EXPO is $10 per person until Sept. 13. Beginning Sept. 14, pre-registration will be $25.
