The exterior of your home and property is the first thing friends, guests and potential buyers see when they pull up to your residence. A dramatic walkway or driveway can amp up the impression made on everyone who visits your home.

Creating this look often involves what has come to be known as “hardscaping,” a term that refers to the parts of your landscaping “set in stone,” such as paths, patios, decks, edgings, built-in seating, and fire pits, states the Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association website, www.wsnla.org.

“The types of projects that are considered ‘hardscape’ are any projects using natural stone, cultured stone, concrete or any other masonry material,” said Carlos Naula of MLC Masonry in Wappingers Falls.

Naula said walkways are one of the projects his customers most commonly request.
