Hustler Turf Equipment announced this week its Super Z HyperDrive and Super 104 mowers will soon be powered by Briggs and Stratton’s Vanguard “Big Block” V-Twin engines.

“The outstanding reputation of Vanguard in the commercial and industrial markets make this engine a perfect fit for our industry-leading machines …,” said Brad Unruh, Hustler Turf Equipment’s director of product strategy. “We are also excited to announce an exclusive Hustler five-year engine warranty, making this change an even greater choice for our valued customers.”

Briggs and Stratton began making the Vanguard air-cooled V-Twin Big Block engine 10 years ago. Jim Cross, marketing manager for Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power, said the Vanguard engine line “continues to receive notoriety for setting a new standard of power and durability for landscape contractors. The engine is a workhorse.”

Hustler Turf Equipment, a brand owned by Hesston, Kansas-based Excel Industries, did not say precisely when mowers equipped with the Vanguard engine would become available at the 2,200 U.S. dealers carrying Excel’s Hustler and BigDog Mower brands.
