The Lone Star LST1G+HDA geotechnical drill is designed for those who need an easy-to-operate solution for penetration tests and soil sampling.
The drill features a 140-pound automatic safety hammer to answer the growing demand for automatic hammers, which improve depth control compared to manual hammers.
“Automatic hammers help to ensure accurate depth control compared to manual hammers,” said Joe Haynes, Little Beaver president. “This has even led some states and jurisdictions to require automatic hammers for conducting standard penetration tests. The LST1G+HDA eliminates user error and makes it easy for drill operators of any experience level to take samples quickly and accurately.”
Powered by a 27-horsepower Kohler EFI gas engine, the LST1G-HDA can drill 6-inch boreholes down to 100 feet. It can also use Little Beaver’s split spoon samplers and AWJ drilling rod for core samples or environmental soil sampling.
The drill has a 12.5-gpm hydraulic power pack that can reach rotary speeds of 100 rpm. In challenging conditions, the drill’s bypass flow control system lets the user make adjustments to maintain ideal push-down force.
The LST1G+HDA has a standard configuration for dry auger boring with the use of a solid or hollow stem auger, but it can also use a number of different auger options that Little Beaver offers.
The drill is built for durability in mind as the frame, rotary and swivel are constructed of welded steel and all maintenance and greasing points are easily accessible. The 3,000-pound unit is mounted on a single-axle trailer that comes with a 2-inch hitch, leveling jacks and spare tire. It can be towed behind a small or standard sized truck.
ArborSystems introduces new insecticide at upcoming trade show

Photo: ArborSystems“Arborists, urban foresters and tree care professionals can try hands-on demonstrations of our advanced tree technology system to see how chemicals are delivered fast and effectively without drilling damage and virtually no environmental exposure associated with foliage spray, soil injection or drenching,” said Chip Doolittle, president of ArborSystems. “Our newest product, Retriever Insecticide, controls aphids, caterpillars, scale, Japanese beetles, leaf miners, leafhoppers and other pests.”
The active ingredient of Retriever is acetamiprid and is formulated to travel through the tree’s vascular system. It can be used in the Wedgle Direct-Inject Tree Injection System. Wedgle is a no-drill tree treatment system and is currently the only application method that does not require a drilled hole, according to ArborSystems.
“Tree trunk injections are a tree-friendly way to treat trees and plants by tree, turf and ornamental specialists while increasing the number of trees treated per day using our system,” Doolittle said. “Children and pets are not exposed to chemical spray or open chemical containers and there is no need to cover outdoor tools, play equipment, pools, furniture or vehicles.”

Case releases SiteControl CoPilot for certain dozers
After partnering with Leica Geosystems, Case Construction Equipment is introducing a new SiteControl CoPilot for select M-Series dozers.
The CoPilot is designed to bridge the gap between automatic and indicate-only systems. Operators are able to set a desired slope/grade reference and are able to automatically hold that slope or grade without lasers, masts or GPS despite underfoot conditions.
Photo: CaseThis technology is comprised of an inertial measurement unit, wiring harness and in-cab display. It is easy to use, allowing both veterans and new operators to achieve and maintain a smooth surface, slope or grade.
Once the slope/grade specifications have been set, the system is able to automatically adjust the blade to keep a consistent surface, removing the need for additional passes, saving on both fuel and labor costs.
The system can be added to existing 2D and 3D machine control systems and is compatible with existing 2D and 3D Leica displays. The SiteControl CoPilot system is available factory-installed or as a retrofit on 1150M, 1650M and 2050M dozers.

Bosch offers new battery-powered blower that focuses on versatility
The Bosch GBL 18V-71 is being promoted as a functional cordless, professional-grade blower that can blow up to 71 cubic feet per minute (CFM).
Photo: BoschWith an air speed of 167 mph hour, Bosch says that its blower can get work done quickly. It can run on the Bosch 622 6.0 Ah 18-volt battery or the Bosch GSA18V 6.3 Ah CORE18V battery and last 54 minutes when used at low speed.
The run time parameter is five minutes per battery amp hour at high speed, and nine minutes per amp hour at low speed. The blower is designed to minimize user fatigue during long periods of use. The GBL18V-71 is sold in a kit that comes with a standard nozzle, nozzle extension and a small diameter nozzle with a debris collection tube.
“The Bosch GB18V-71 is a professional-grade blower with great power at 71 CFM, but it doesn’t sacrifice versatility because it’s lightweight as well,” said Jim Stevens, product manager for Bosch. “There are many cordless blowers available, but pro users are looking for a compact blower that incorporates both power and runtime. The GBL18V-71 delivers both.”
