Rudy Larsen, third from the left, and his team celebrated winning the Landscaper of the Year.

Total Landscape Care announced its 2015 Landscaper of the Year while on a cruise with the 12 finalists Oct. 7-10.

All of the finalists and their guests enjoyed an all-expense-paid cruise to the Bahamas with the TLC staff and Case Construction Equipment, which presents the event.

During the awards banquet, Rudy Larsen, owner of Lawn Butler, was named the 2015 Landscaper of the Year.

His company, located just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah, offers maintenance, irrigation, design/build and other services for both residential and commercial clients.

Even with a 300-percent growth rate during the past three years, Lawn Butler continues to provide superior service and give back to the community. They donate money to their local VA hospital and sponsor programs like the “Battle of the Books” for low-income schools.

Larsen has also founded two additional companies – a general construction company and a water management company called Smart Rain. Through Smart Rain, Larsen’s staff convinced the Central Water District of Utah to provide substantial installation rebates for water management systems. During the past two years, Smart Rain has saved 130 million gallons of fresh water for its customers – enough fresh water for 5,000 people for a full year.

In addition to being honored during the awards banquet, all of the landscapers participated in a roundtable discussion where they shared their tips for success, issues and posed questions to the other owners. Some of the top concerns were finding the right employees, health-care reform, managing growth, OSHA and DOT regulations, certifications and safety.

Check back later this week for more insights from the roundtable.

During the weekend cruise, the landscapers also enjoyed networking, having a good time and just relaxing while on and off of the boat.

Congratulations again to all of the finalists and winner!
