Hillside Transformation

Updated Feb 19, 2013

Challenging terrain becomes a space to relax and renew

By breaking down this property’s obstacles one phase at a time, Idaho Classic Landscape & Sprinklers created a design that lit up the client’s face. They began by transforming a hillside, which was almost too steep to mow, into a waterfall, stream bed and pond, using pavers and block walls. To extend the features’ tranquil effects into the night, they added lighting to illuminate the water and bridge. “It turned out to be beautiful,” says Lois Nafus, co-owner of Idaho Classic. For the second phase, which was adjacent to the client’s back deck, the crew removed dead plants and installed another block wall, as well as stepping stones and additional lighting. To complete the project, they excavated into the hillside and built a semi-circular shaped retaining wall and paver base to create space for a hot tub.
