Bayer Environmental Science, part of the company’s Crop Science Division, has named John Wendorf to manage Bayer’s efforts to expand its presence in the production ornamentals market.

“John offers a rich background in commercial operations, marketing and leadership roles in the professional ornamentals market,” said Jose Milan, head of the Bayer turf and ornamentals (T&O) business. “His technical qualifications and history of strategic leadership within Bayer make him uniquely qualified to help steer the expanded Bayer ornamentals business – and the industry – forward.”

Wendorf has worked within Bayer T&O for nearly three years, focusing most recently on tracking market trends to provide long-term strategic direction for the business.

Bayer’s move into the ornamentals market is scheduled to occur in November.

Wendorf holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from Texas A&M University.

Dewberry welcomes landscape architects

Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has hired landscape architects Dennis E. Pitts and Larry J. Ragland as land planners in the firm’s Raleigh, North Carolina, office.

Pitts specializes in large-scale master planning and has been involved in more than 125 public and private school projects in North Carolina.

He has 43 years of experience in project management, master planning, programming, site development, public outreach, construction administration, urban and streetscape design and historic preservation.

Ragland specializes in environmental inventory and analysis, project management and construction administration.

With 42 years of experience, he has worked on dozens of K-12 schools, parks, office parks, industrial parks and shopping centers, among other projects throughout North Carolina.

Headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, Dewberry has more than 40 locations nationwide and employs over 2,000 people.

Davey names tree surgery VP

The Davey Tree Expert Co. has announced the promotion of Terry Bier to the position of regional vice president of Davey Tree Surgery Co., a subsidiary of Davey Tree.

Bier will oversee utility operations for Hawaii and the southwestern region of Davey Tree, with locations in Arizona, California and Nevada.

Bier started with Davey in 1989 and has held a variety of positions both in the field and administrative offices. He served most recently as operations manager for the southwestern region.

Bier has more than 25 years of experience in the green industry. He is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and an ISA Certified Arborist Utility Specialist. Bier is also a certified pesticide applicator in both California and Nevada.

The Davey Tree Expert Co. employs more than 8,000 people and serves markets throughout the United States and Canada.

Leading Ruppert’s new D.C. branch

Ruppert Landscape announced recently the promotion of Chris Bixler to branch manager in the company’s D.C. Landscape Management Branch. Bixler has been with Ruppert for four years and has more than 10 years of industry experience.

He has previously held the positions of area manager and business development manager. He holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture production from the University of Maryland.

As branch manager, Bixler will be responsible for the overall welfare of the D.C. branch, including the safety and development of his team, strategic planning and budgeting, training and day-to-day operations.

Meanwhile, Ruppert Landscape also announced the promotion of Angela Howes, who was named landscape construction branch manager for North Carolina.

Howes has been with Ruppert for more than 12 years, most recently as operations manager in the company’s Virginia Landscape Construction Branch. In her new position, Howes will be responsible for the overall performance of the North Carolina branch, including the safety and development of her team, strategic planning and budgeting, training and day-to-day operations.
