Stihl Inc. has marked the opening of its new distribution facility in Village of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, after announcing early this year that it would move its operations in Peoria, Illinois, and Hayward, Wisconsin, to the new facility once construction was complete.

Construction of the 65,750-square-foot facility was completed in October. Stihl says in a news release on the opening this week that the new facility represents an investment in improving overall operations and supporting dealer growth “in the mid-northern region” of the United States.

“We are extremely pleased to celebrate the opening of this new distribution location because it represents our continued focus on serving our dealers and customers more efficiently,” said Stihl President Fred Whyte, who attended the ceremony.

Stihl chose the Village of Cottage Grove because of its access to the I-90 and I-94 corridors, which are the main routes for deliveries to the company’s dealers in the region.

The new facility includes expanded warehouse capabilities and nine loading doors to handle inbound and outbound freight. As a result, Stihl says, the company will be able to provide one-day shipping service to most of the 1,000 servicing dealers in the region. In addition, Midwest Stihl can now offer enhanced training and technical services to their dealers in its new indoor/outdoor training facility and workshop.

The new Midwest Stihl facility occupies almost 10 acres and employs about 40 people. It is currently serving dealers in Iowa and Illinois. Beginning in February, the facility will start serving the remainder of the territory, including Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
