A few California-college level engineers got a little creative to help the environment.
The team has developed a device that can be attached to lawnmowers that will cut down on emissions, according to the Medical Daily.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that Americans spend three billion hours per year outside using lawn equipment, and the pollution from push mowers can put out as much as 11 cars in on hour and a riding lawnmower can put out as much as 34 cars, the article states.
These students created the “NOx-Out” – a retrofitted air filter for small engines. It can cut carbon monoxide by 87 percent, nitrogen oxides by 97 percent and particulate matter by 44 percent.
