Do Your Homework When It Comes to Plants

planting-a-treeI thought I knew what I was doing in my backyard as I planted a few Impatiens, Snap Dragons and Lantana.

But I was wrong.

I wrote an article about how Downy mildew is attacking Impatiens all across the country, and the attack isn’t being reduced by any stretch of the imagination.

I did my “research” to a point, but I should have dug deeper. I enjoy the hunt of finding all of the ins and outs of a topic – I guess that’s why I went into journalism.

However, I didn’t take the time like I should have to research what is going on in 2013 with plants.

Educating yourself is the only way to feel confident about what you’re really putting into someone’s yard.

If you’re second-guessing yourself on how big that tree will really get, find out as soon as you can before you dig that hole.

The last thing you want to happen is to plant something and have an angry client coming to you in a month saying the bush is five times the size you said it would be, or all of the plants have died in the yard because they weren’t adaptable to the environment.

Now the next question you may be asking yourself is, How am I supposed to learn about every plant? There are thousands!

Right. Well you’re not the first person to run into that problem. There are a variety of apps that have been created as a “landscaper’s best friend” to help you along the way.

There are 16 in this one article alone.

The Internet is also a great tool to find out what is happening with the latest trends, diseases and infestations happening with trees and flowers, so do your research.

Take some time, educate yourself and that could make a big difference between a happy client and an angry client.

The Attachments Idea Book
