Photo: PantoneLast year Pantone, the authority on color, broke the mold and chose two different colors for its Color of the Year title, but for 2017 it is returning to its single shade.
As announced today, the color known as “Greenery” has been chosen as color snapshot for the upcoming year and serves as an expression for a mood and an attitude.
Greenery is a vibrant yellow-green color that is often seen in spring leaves. According to Pantone, “Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.”
Much like how nature’s greenery restores and renews individuals’ peace of mind, this color is intended to remind consumers to take a deep breath and become reinvigorated.
Pantone points out that as the public becomes more immersed in modern life, people naturally crave the colors found in the outdoors and the sense of calm they bring.
“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone Color Institute. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
While you can expect to see more of this color in the fashion industry, landscapers can take heart in knowing that some people will seek out an actual green escape via a new landscaping project.
If there is any industry that should dominate and take advantage of this color prediction, it is the green industry. No one else comes close to offering so many life-affirming shades of green and the skills to turn them into a relaxing oasis for those feeling frayed in distressing times.
The selection of Greenery also feeds the trend of including actual greenery in urban architecture.
