The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden chose SolaRight Lighting for a project designed to enhance the experience of nighttime visitors to the zoo.

The company says its solar-powered lighting systems were installed in the zoo’s Cat Forest, Island Life and Great EscApe areas in order to provide a unique atmosphere for evening events.

“We are excited to improve the evening walkability and beauty of these popular areas,” said Dwight Lawson, executive director and CEO of the Oklahoma City Zoo. “Working with a local supplier and installing products that will soon be manufactured in Oklahoma made it a win-win for everyone involved.”

The lighting installation was funded by the Oklahoma Zoological Society.

Todd Catania, SolaRight Lighting’s business development manager, says the company hopes to be involved in more installations at the zoo eventually.

SolaRight says its systems, which operate completely on solar power provide the Oklahoma City Zoo with environmentally friendly, maintenance-free path lighting.

Based in Oklahoma City, SolaRight Lighting’s construction-grade LED solar paver tiles are designed for a variety of landscape applications, including gardens, pool areas and walkways, among others. SolaRight lights generate 100 percent of their energy from the sun, requiring no batteries, wires or maintenance, according to the company.
