Turfgrass managers invited to Auburn field day March 30

Auburn University turfgrass management researchers will play host to a field day March 30.

Auburn Turfgrass Research & Education Day begins at 8 a.m. at the Auburn University Turfgrass Research Unit, 105 Shug Jordan Parkway. Following a luncheon, field day participants are invited to play golf with their peers at the Auburn University Club. The cost including golf and lunch is $125 per person; without golf, the cost is $50 per person. Go here to learn more and register.

Turfgrass Research & Education Day will provide firsthand information on the latest work at Auburn University, which offers a master’s degree in turfgrass management. Landscape horticulture is among other specialty degree tracks offered within AU’s College of Agriculture, as is nursery and greenhouse science.

The Alabama Turfgrass Association says this year’s field day at Auburn will include a series of 30-minute presentations by university researchers, including graduate students.

While turfgrass professionals from Alabama can earn state pesticide re-certification points by attending the event, Auburn Research & Education Day participation also earns GCSAA PDI points and Certified Crop Advisor points.

According to Auburn University’s website, the turfgrass management and weed science programs are two of the largest in the College of Agriculture’s Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences. In addition to weed science, areas of research and education include plant pathology, entomology and irrigation technology.
