New tree injection insecticide available for sale

Merit Tree Injection insecticide, the most recent addition to the Merit insecticides from Bayer Environmental Science, is now registered and available for sale. The insecticide contains a higher concentration of imidacloprid, the active ingredient, with less volume to improve operational efficiency for controlling pest infestations.

Because it can be injected directly into the tree trunk or root flare, Merit can quickly move throughout the tree to provide systemic protection. Users also have the option to treat trees with Merit using traditional application methods, such as soil drench and soil injection. Merit may also be used as a preventive measure to keep healthy trees free of pests.

According to Bayer, Merit provides flexibility because it can be used in cases where soil treatment may not be feasible. “Because there are a variety of methods available for applying Merit Tree Injection, arborist and lawn care professionals can choose which type works best on a case-by-case basis,” says Bryan Gooch, business manager, imidacloprid, Bayer Environmental Science.

Designed to work with commonly available trunk injection application equipment, Merit Tree Injection is sold in one-pint bottles. It is also available as Merit Injectable in pre-filled 3-milliliter and 6-milliliter capsules.

Merit Tree Injection controls pests such as Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Longhorned Beetle, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, aphids, lace bugs, psyllids, leafhoppers and scale.
