Record participation in PLANET’s Student Career Days

PLANET held its 32nd Student Career Days March 27-30 in Acworth, Georgia. Sixty-five college teams comprising 950 students participated in the four-day event, which includes 25 individual and team competitions in contests like tree climbing, paver installation, plant identification, sales presentation and skid steer and equipment operation.

Honors are awarded to individual winners as well as teams. PLANET gave away over $70,000 in scholarship money at this year’s event through its PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation.

Individual winners, called “Superstars,” were Matthew Early, North Metro Technical College (Acworth, Georgia), first place; Ken Kwait, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Champaign, Illinois), second place and Ken Beasley, Hinds Community College (Jackson, Mississippi), third place.

Team winners were North Metro Technical College, first place; Brigham Young University (Idaho campus), second place and BYU (Provo campus), third place.

An on-site career fair is also part of the event, allowing students the opportunity to interview with green industry companies. Over 100 companies participated in the fair.

The Stihl Ironjacks performed between competitions, presenting logrolling, tree climbing, sawing and chopping shows.
