HRI calls for grant applications

The Horticultural Research Institute and its Endowment Fund, which serve as the research division of the American Nursery and Landscape Association, is accepting applications for its research grants program for the 2008 fiscal year. The application deadline is May 15.

HRI supports research projects relevant to important issues in the green industry. HRI-funded projects include those that concentrate on significant problems, regulatory issues or new opportunities in the nursery and landscape industry, emphasize environmentally responsible management practices, increase the business or financial expertise of nursery crop producers or improve and expand the market for plant material.

HRI looks for research with definable outcomes and potential for a return on the investment for the green industry. According to its Web site, research priorities include issues dealing with horticultural management, new plant development, marketing and business development, mechanization and applied technology, pest management and research management.
