The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) received an Award of Excellence in the 2008 Associations Advance America Awards, which are conducted by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership.
PLANET won the award for its Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries project that is held annually. Each July hundreds of landscape and lawn care specialists come to the cemeteries to help with mulching, caring for and cabling trees with lightning protection, pruning, liming, planting and aerating. They also provide irrigation installation and maintenance. The labor, products and services are donated and value over $350,000. More than $1 million has been contributed since the project began.
The ASAE and The Center for Association Leadership give awards for three levels, the Summit Award, Award of Excellence and Honor Roll. Because PLANET won an Award of Excellence, it is automatically considered for the 2008 Summit Award. These awards will be announced in September 2008.
