Landscape Structures commits $200,000 to Sustainable Sites Initiative

Landscape Structures, Delano, Minnesota, has committed $200,000 to support the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SSI). The SSI is a partnership involving the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the United States Botanic Garden and other organizations. Its purpose is to develop guidelines and standards for landscape sustainability that will measure the sustainability of designed landscapes similar to how the LEED rating system is used to measure environmental impact. The U.S. Green Building Council expects to adopt Sustainable Sites guidelines into the LEED system once they are finished.

SSI will issue its next major report on sustainable landscapes in November, but a preview will be available in October at the ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO.
