Good customers can be hard to find. With that in mind, we’ve always encouraged our readers to have an active presence on social media. While a lot of landscapers have a Facebook page, I think one channel that really lends itself to landscaping is Instagram. Since landscaping is such a visual industry, it makes sense that an app designed to showcase photos would be the perfect medium.
Also, consider Instagram as a source of inspiration. Find some companies whose work you admire, and follow their accounts. You may find your own creativity sparked, even if it’s only by an attractive color scheme.
Here are a few of my favorite Instagram accounts:
I like that this Southern California-based company’s Instagram page showcases what’s great about residing on the West Coast – a laid-back lifestyle with an emphasis on outdoor living. The plant material takes a back seat to stunning pools and water features, outdoor kitchens and intricate stone work.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Elk Landscape Developments’ page is a mix of attractive residential landscaping and unique custom projects. For me, what’s appealing is that the landscaping photos are interspersed with cute shots of the company’s employees and children, and even a few puppy dogs.

A 100-year old nursery and landscaper in Brooklyn, Gallo Gardens features colorful flowers, distinctive hedges and attractive landscaped yards. I really enjoy the throwback photos of the company throughout history.

This Canadian-based design/build firm doesn’t have a ton of photos on their page, but I like that the ones they’ve chosen really showcase their craftsmanship. I’m looking forward to more posts from them.

Although not a landscaper, this UK-based floral designer uses appealing combinations of color and texture in his compositions that I think serve as great inspiration for beds, borders and container gardening.

Tucson-based Loya’s Courtyard is a furniture, statuary and pottery retailer whose Instagram page includes a variety of plants paired with one-of-a-kind pieces sure to stimulate creativity. The whimsical statuary and colorful pottery paired with plant material is charming and fun.

Based in Kent, England, this page showcases traditionally beautiful English design. My favorite photos, though, are the hand-drawn English garden designs – so gorgeous!

Commercial clients love container gardens, and Brewton, Alabama-based Quality Lawn Services has some really pretty examples. I also like their work with paving stones.

An online specialty store specializing in large palms, Real Palm Trees has hundreds of great photos of unique landscaping designs including intricate walkway designs and amazing water features, as well as some fairly exotic plants.

Pennsylvania-based Ryan’s Landscaping, a firm with an emphasis on outdoor living, features a range of retaining walls, patios, fire pits and other backyard elements. Instead of posting lots of pretty pictures, the company posts plenty of working shots, focusing on the nuts and bolts of landscape installation. With more than 1,800 photos on their page, there’s plenty of hardscaping to check out.

Patios, pavers, plants and pools are the story for Swan Creek Landscaping, based in Maryland. I like that the page provides equipment photos combined with shots of finished spaces, and includes lots of pops of color.
