The ongoing evolution of utility vehicles for work and play has taken a major step forward with the introduction of ASV’s Scout SC-50 full-size, track machine. Although it serves the same role as conventional utility machines, the Scout is cast from a completely different mold, says ASV’s director of product development, Brad Lemke.
Based on ASV’s RC-50 rubber track loader, the Scout sports many features found throughout the company’s product lines. “Most important is our Posi-Track undercarriage,” Lemke notes. “This proprietary, suspended undercarriage uses contact points that are spread evenly over the entire ground contact area of the rubber tracks to provide a noticeably smoother ride and more traction in rugged or soggy ground.”
Another advantage ASV’s undercarriage provides is exceedingly low ground pressure. Lemke says a standard Scout undercarriage generates only 2.5 psi of ground pressure. “So it’s perfect for lawns and other sensitive surfaces,” he adds. “And when the Scout is fitted with our optional smooth track system, the machine leaves virtually no imprint behind on finished turf. In addition, a special Turf Edition Scout package is specifically designed to work effectively and sensitively on delicate lawns.”
Because the Scout design is based on a proven, construction-grade track loader, Lemke says the machines are more robust and deliver longer productive work lives even in tough working conditions. The base Scout model comes with a flatbed rear deck and a cargo load capacity of 4,000 pounds. An industrial grade, hydraulic dump box can haul up to 1.3 cubic yards of material and is available as an option. You can also spec an optional 16.3 gpm auxiliary hydraulic system to power a wide array of attachments, implements and hand-held work tools. “We’ve rounded this tough package out with the inclusion of a 50-horsepower Perkins diesel engine,” Lemke adds. “Its joystick controls are simple and intuitive to master, and its hydrostatic, two-speed drive system lets you choose high-torque for heavy hauling or a high travel speed mode that allows transport speeds up to 11.5 mph.”
The Scout comfortably carries two people in open or optional enclosed cabs, and can be spec’d in yellow-and-black or sportsman green paint schemes. A wide array of attachments can be changed out in fewer than 10 minutes, allowing fast optimization for both work and play configurations.
