A year after introducing the next-generation 2017 F-150 Raptor, boasting an aluminum body and the same engine inside the new GT supercar, Ford used the North American International Auto Show to unveil the SuperCrew option for the off-roader.

As a bit of review, the 2017 Raptor is 500 pounds lighter than previous Raptor models, mating an aluminum body with a steel frame. Ford says the truck has been completely reengineered with a body 6 inches wider than the standard F-150.

A new Terrain Management System will enable drivers to select one of a half-dozen modes to tailor the truck’s performance to driving conditions. The 2017 Raptor SuperCrew has four full-size doors, giving rear passengers more legroom and more storage space. The truck has a 145-inch wheel base – 12 inches longer than the standard Raptor SuperCab.

While the previous Raptor was powered by a 6.2-liter V8, Ford has replaced that engine with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbo V6 paired with a 10-speed transmission. Though the automaker hasn’t issued official numbers for the new V6, Ford says it will offer more power than the V8’s 411 horsepower and 434 ft.-lbs. of torque.

The truck comes standard with Fox Racing Shox suspension and the front and rear shock canisters have grown from 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter over the current model.

The truck also boasts a new transfer case with “torque-on-demand,” resulting in better traction on a greater variety of train at both low and high speeds. The truck’s new Terrain Management System will allow drivers to select the following modes to tailor the truck’s performance:

  • Normal mode for everyday driving.
  • Street mode for higher-performance, on-road driving.
  • Weather mode for rain, snow or ice.
  • Mud and sand mode for muddy and sandy trails and terrain.
  • Baja mode for high-speed desert running.
  • Rock mode for low-speed rock crawling.

A Torsen front differential is an available option, increasing front-end grip significantly.
