The program was started in 2012 and helps landscapers offset the cost of purchasing a new propane unit by letting them save up to $1,000.
Along with landscape contractors, facility managers, municipal fleet directors and even homeowners are eligible to participate in this incentive program. Applicants can receive up to $1,000 for the purchase of a new propane mower, while $500 is available for those that choose to alter a gasoline mower with a conversion kit.
“The incentive helps landscape contractors save on the upfront cost of a new propane mower, but the long-term savings contractors benefit from when operating a propane fleet can be tremendous, too,” said Jeremy Wishart, deputy director of business development at PERC. “Compared to gasoline and diesel equipment, propane mowers can not only reduce a contractor’s ongoing fuel costs, but they can also lead to less maintenance-related downtime.”
Over the lifetime of the program, more than 4,000 gasoline mowers have been exchanged for propane models. During the last period of time the program ran, more than 600 applications for mower purchases and conversions were received from October 2015 to April 2016.
As the growing season winds down, now is prime time to look into replacing equipment and trying out a new fuel method.
“Beyond being a unique sales tool for equipment dealers and propane retailers, the incentive helps more contractors experience propane’s long-term benefits as well,” Wishart said.
