For half a century now, TDH Landscaping has continued to grow and find success in and around the family-owned company’s headquarters in Monkton, Maryland.

Achieving that success – and sustaining it – has required plenty of hard work from owners and employees alike.

The source of the company’s success is no mystery, says TDH co-owner and principal Russell Irvin. It’s a product of determination.

“If you’re going to be successful in any business, determination is the most important rule you need to live by,” Irvin says. “Anybody in business knows that they have to be driven or be determined to make things happen.”

Asked about other keys to a successful operation, Irvin doesn’t hesitate: “Listening,” he says.

“You have to listen to your customer and listen to your employees,” he says. “It’s pretty important as a business owner to know what you need to do and know what the customer wants. Don’t sell them what you want.”
