‘Tis the season for tricks and treats, and all around the nation people are finding unique ways to celebrate.
Take a look at a few out of the ordinary places and events that are sure to draw a crowd and give families something memorable to do this Halloween.
Jack-O’-Lantern Spectacular
The Jack-O’-Lantern Spectacular is held Oct. 12-Nov. 5 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Over 5,000 carved pumpkins span a ¼-mile talking trial through Iroquois Park. This event gives spectators the chance to take a leisurely stroll beginning at dusk. Depending on the day, the park will stay open until 11 p.m. or midnight.
The Great Jack-O’-Lantern Blaze
Another out of the ordinary event that takes place in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, is the Great Jack-O’-Lantern Blaze. The event takes place Oct. 12-31 and Nov. 2-5, 9-12, 17-18 and 24-25.
This event has been referred to as the area’s biggest Halloween event, and it features over 5,000 detailed, hand-carved jack-o’-lanterns. Together, these form fantastical displays, such as a working grandfather clock and a T-Rex.
Screams Halloween Theme Park
What could be better than mixing the excitement of a theme park with the thrill of Halloween?
Screams Halloween Theme Park in Waxahachie, Texas, seeks to do just that by holding the record of being the largest Halloween theme park. This park, located only 30 minutes south of Dallas, boasts seriously haunted attractions and scream-worthy moments not meant for the faint of heart.
For those that enjoy a good scare, there are a plethora of options available for everyone. Running from Sept. 29-Oct. 28, there are Halloween characters running around, face painting, rides, games and performances.
Autumn at the Arboretum
With the leaves beginning to change and the weather turning cool, what better time is there to visit an arboretum?
Running from Sept. 23 to Nov. 22, Autumn at the Arboretum is one of the biggest pumpkin displays in Texas. Featuring a Pumpkin Village made up of over 90,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds, the village also has out of the ordinary jack-o’-lanterns.
The jack-o’-lanterns include monsters, fairytale creatures and more, so there’s a little something for everyone. For 2017, the theme will be The Wonderful World of Oz, and will feature a fall festival of colors.
There will also be over 4,500 of fall’s favorite flower – Chrysanthemums – and 150,000 more fall blooming plants.
Roger Williams Park Zoo’s Jack-O’-Lantern Spectacular
Located in Providence, Rhode Island, the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in Roger Williams Park Zoo takes place Oct. 6-Nov. 6.
This event gives visitors the chance to see glowing pumpkins that fill the trees and line the paths of the zoo’s Wetlands Trail. The pathway is typically serene and the pathways also showcase the native wildlife. During Halloween, the place comes to life with 5,000 carved jack-o’-lanterns all with an array of faces to boast.
