Green Giant Lawn & Tree Care in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, wasn’t patting itself on the back this week; on the contrary, the company was much too busy lauding its clients.

But, in awarding the grand prize in a monthly photo contest for its customers, Green Giant became a ready-made example of smart marketing.

The 2016 photo contest – depicting beautiful lawns, of course – was open to the company’s customers. Green Giant launched the contest in March of last year, awarding $100 gift certificates for company services to monthly winners through the end of the year. Then, this week, the company announced that the monthly winner of the March prize, Glenn and Mallory Kercher of Reading, had been chosen as the $1,000 grand prize winner.

The marketing benefits of the contest alone are clear, but the landscaping company boosted its positive exposure by determining winners through votes cast on the Green Giant Lawn & Tree Care website. Thus, not only Green Giant customers but also their family and friends, were attracted to the site to vote.

The Kerchers received 744 votes on Mallory Kercher’s winning image. The second-place winner received 546 votes.

The Kerchers’ prize is valid for any Green Giant Lawn & Tree Care or Green Giant Pest Control service.

The company’s owner, Dan Rothermel Jr., is thrilled with the outcome of the photo contest and plans on launching more contests this year.

“This was our first year for the photo contest and we were extremely pleased with all the great photos that were submitted,” Rothermel said. “There were many pictures that could have easily won the year-end contest and we appreciate everyone’s participation. Hopefully we will get even more great pictures from our customers in 2017.”

A family-owned business, Green Giant Lawn & Tree Care was founded in 1982 and serves Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Lancaster, Lehigh and Northampton counties in southeastern Pennsylvania, as well as areas around Reading.
