Woods, a brand of Blount International’s Farm, Ranch and Agriculture Division, is targeting landscapers, tree-service companies and commercial firewood producers with its new high-speed Commercial Kinetic Log Splitter.

Time is money in the firewood business, said Scott Baylor, Woods’ product manager for log splitters, and the company’s new machine “will split wood six times faster than a conventional hydraulic unit and consume less fuel as well.”

The manufacturer asked commercial firewood producers around the country to test the product and used their feedback to improve the design. Photo: WoodsThe manufacturer asked commercial firewood producers around the country to test the product and used their feedback to improve the design.

Key features include a 196cc Kohler SH265 Horizontal engine, two-second cycle time, 32-inch heavy-duty work table that allows rounds and re-splits to be staged on both sides, flush-mounted beam that doesn’t snag when pulling logs back for re-split, and a patent-pending handle that is designed to absorb energy in the event of a stall.

“The torsion springs in the handle that reduce kickback to the operator, combined with the minimized handle travel distance and actuation force, mean that the ergonomics on this unit are second to none,” Baylor said.

The manufacturer asked commercial firewood producers in different parts of the country to test units for several months and then provide feedback to Woods. “That was critical to the evolution of this design,” Baylor said.

The Woods Commercial Kinetic Log Splitter isn’t just faster than hydraulic 20- to 40-ton log splitters, the manufacturer says. It’s also easier to maintain because it uses no hydraulic fluid or parts.
