The San Diego chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects has volunteered to help design the Veterans Honor Garden at the Veterans Resource Center in Oceanside, California.

Three members answered the nonprofit’s request for help in designing the garden. Landscape architects Joy Lyndes, Jacqueline Higgins and Richard Risner will work with the Veterans Association of North County’s CEO, Chuck Atkinson.

The proposed design for a half-acre parcel of land will include an honor wall, kiosk obelisk and a patriotic sculpture. The entrance will center around a Peace Tree, an old olive tree, along with drought-tolerant plants, crape myrtles and jacaranda trees.

Another part of the design will allow for seating and a stage for future educational displays and designs.

The Veterans Resource Center completed its own renovations earlier this year. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, its new goal has been generating $250,000 for the outdoor honor garden. The organization’s garden committee has been raising the money by putting on dance events each month and selling honor bricks that will be placed in the garden.
