Hendrickson unveils TIREMAXX CP-a new automatic tire inflation system

To better match the varying requirements of today™s haulers, Hendrickson Trailer Suspension Systems introduces TIREMAAX CP (Constant Pressure), a new configuration of its popular automatic tire inflation system for trailers.

With the launch of TIREMAAX CP, the original TIREMAAX name becomes TIREMAAX EC (Electronic Control). TIREMAAX CP features a simple mechanical design, while TIREMAAX EC provides full system programming and monitoring. The patented TIREMAAX systems draw from the trailer air supply to help keep trailer tires properly inflated and rolling smoothly.

TIREMAAX CP continually checks tire pressure without pressurizing the axle or wheel ends and employs a pneumatic controller to direct air to tires that fall below a preset pressure level. A signal light illuminates only when attention is required to alert the operator of tire or system leaks.

With robust components and no electronics, transducers or pressure switches, TIREMAAX CP is easy to maintain. The versatile CP requires no special tools to adjust tire pressure settings and operates on either 12- or 24-volt electrical systems.

All TIREMAAX units feature premium, high-performance components including bolt-in, ball-bearing rotary unions; rugged braided stainless steel axle hoses; axle ventilation systems with patented axle filters, and seals specially designed to handle extreme temperature ranges. Tough, braided stainless steel tire hoses; heavy-duty tee-fittings, and steel tee-fitting guards provide outstanding durability. To help prevent wheel-end contamination, TIREMAAX uses internal supply lines without pressurizing the axle.

Both TIREMAAX CP and EC may be combined with an extensive array of Hendrickson approved wheel-end configurations on any Hendrickson INTRAAX primary suspension system or VANTRAAX slider suspension system.

Government studies confirm that properly inflated tires increase fuel economy and decrease tire related costs approximately $800 annually per tractor-trailer combination. Studies also reveal proper inflation can prevent about one road call a year per tractor-trailer combination.

TIREMAAX can quickly pay for itself. Potential increased fuel mileage and reduced maintenance and replacement costs for tires all contribute to fleet savings. In addition, TIREMAAX can extend tire casing life and prevent downtime and costly road service, reports Matt Wilson, Hendrickson controls business unit manager.

A January 2007 Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) study found 7 percent of all tires underinflated by 20 psi or more and about 56 percent below or above their target pressure by more than 5 psi. The FMCSA study also reported that improper tire inflation may lead to compromised braking, poor handling and reduced stability.
