PC800LC-8 Driven by Power, Productivity and Reliability

Vernon Hills, IL, May 16, 2006”Komatsu America Corp. recently introduced its new PC800LC-8 hydraulic excavator.  Upholding its leadership in excavator design, Komatsu has developed an upgraded machine with increased stability and productivity, an improved Tier 3 certified engine and enhanced serviceability. The PC800LC-8 is ideal for large-scale utility applications, pit and quarry work, as well as other high production applications.

The powerful PC800LC-8 has a flywheel horsepower of 487 HP and an operating weight between 179,400 and 192,240 pounds. Bucket capacities range from 2.23 to 5.93 cubic yards, depending on boom and arm length, material density, and application conditions.

The new PC800LC-8 is equipped with the latest Komtrax technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure website utilizing wireless technology.  Data such as operating hours, location, cautions, and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis.  The Komtrax wireless equipment monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

Features of the new PC800LC-8 include:

Exceptional power with reduced exhaust emissions

The PC800LC-8 gets its exceptional power and work capacity from a Komatsu SAA6D140E-5 engine, which adopts the world™s first cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculating) system with electronically controlled bypass-assist type venturi. The engine complies with EPA Tier 3 emission regulations, reducing nitrous oxide emissions by approximately 40 percent. A new hydraulically driven variable speed cooling fan is adopted for quieter operation and improved fuel economy. Fan speed varies with engine coolant, hydraulic oil and ambient temperature inputs, and its fan rotation is reversible to aid in radiator and hydraulic cooler cleaning.

The PC800LC-8 is equipped with two working modes (Power and Economy).  Each mode is designed to match engine speed, pump flow and system pressure to specific application requirements, giving the operator flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand. Economy mode now features four (4) level settings, allowing the operator to achieve required production at lowest possible fuel consumption. The Heavy Lift mode gives the operator 10% more lifting force on the boom when needed to handle large rock or heavy lifting applications.

Komatsu has enhanced the PC800LC-8™s work equipment speed with an arm quick-return circuit for arm dumping. By returning a portion of oil flow directly to the hydraulic tank at arm dumping, hydraulic pressure loss is reduced, and in combination with increased bucket dumping speed, faster loading is realized.

Comfortable cab enhances operator productivity

The PC800LC-8 features a wide spacious cab which offers industry-leading operator comfort.  The automatic air conditioner, dual air filters and a higher internal air pressure maintain a very comfortable working environment in any weather conditions and external dust is prevented from entering the cab. In-cab noise levels are exceptionally low due to the new damper mounting system and sizeable sound level reduction at engine, hydraulic relief, and swing relief sources.

Highly reliable and built to last

All PC800LC-8 major components are designed and produced by Komatsu. Booms and arms exhibit long-term durability and are highly resistant to bending and torsional stress due to large cross-sectional structures, thick high tensile strength steel, interior partition walls, and extensive use of large castings.  Komatsu frames are designed using the most advanced three-dimensional CAD and FEM analysis technology.  Highly reliable electronic devices have passed severe testing, metal guard rings protect all hydraulic cylinders, and Deutz-type electrical connectors are completely sealed against dirt and moisture. Hydraulic hoses are equipped with O-ring seals versus conventional taper seals to provide extended leak-free life. The PC800LC-8 also has the most extensive filtration system available with standard in-line high pressure filters in the outlet port of each main hydraulic pump to reduce failures caused by contamination.

Maintenance made easy

Equipped with Komatsu™s exclusive EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), the PC800LC-8 was designed to reduce costly downtime. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should a problem occur.  By preventing a small problem from becoming a major service issue, EMMS contributes to operating cost reduction. The system also tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, providing on-board warning as required maintenance becomes due. Error codes and troubleshooting assistance is available at the EMMS display, minimizing diagnosis and repair time.

PC800LC-8 service points are easily accessible and grouped to allow fast machine checks and preventative maintenance service. A wide catwalk, large handrails and steps, and slip resistant plates offer easy and safe access throughout the machine.
