KOMATSU INTRODUCES THE POWERFUL NEW HM300-2 ARTICULATED DUMP TRUCK

  • Tier 3 compliant engine offers superior GVW-to-horsepower ratio

  • Hydro-pneumatic suspension in both the front and rear suspensions

  • High capacity, wet-type, multiple-disc brake and retarder combination

  • Comfortable cab and improved service intervals

VERNON HILLS, Ill.,  Komatsu America Corp. (KAC) releases the HM300-2 articulated truck, the latest version of the popular HM-series trucks. The HM300-2 is designed to provide earthmoving, road construction and quarry markets with proven reliability and higher performance with a lower cost-per-ton.

A powerful, Tier 3-compliant Komatsu SAA6D125E-5 ecot3 engine offers a superior gross vehicle weight (GVW)-to-horsepower ratio, lowering cost-per-ton and bettering grade climbing and descending capabilities. The water-cooled, 4-cycle 340 HP engine is EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage 3A compliant, while offering maximum productivity through more horsepower and higher engine output and torque. This delivers higher travel speeds and high horsepower per ton. The engine also is equipped with a power mode selection system (Power and Economy) for improved fuel economy. The HM300-2 features a maximum GVW of 113,360 lb., hauling up to a 30-ton payload at its top rated speed of 36.4 mph.

The HM300-2 offers a smooth ride with hydro-pneumatic suspension in both the front and rear keeping the tires on the ground at all times. The front axle hydro-pneumatic suspension employs a De Dion type design allowing the truck to travel smoothly over bumps. In addition, a fully hydraulic articulated steering system provides light and easy operation, with a minimum turning radius of 26 ft., 1 in. enabling it to work in tight areas.

Greater Traction and Stopping Power

For superior stopping power and reliability, the HM300-2 comes with a high capacity, wet-type, multiple disc brake and retarder combination, providing a retarder absorbing capacity of 468 HP.

The oil-cooled multiple-disc interaxle lock can be turned on and off during travel. In addition, the limited slip differentials automatically prevent the tires on either side from slipping on soft ground for maximum traction, and the truck comes equipped with a full-time six-wheel drive system to further reduce slippage. A wet, multiple-disk interaxle clutch also locks the three axles in unison for greater traction.

The HM300-2 was designed to have an easy-to-load body, with a low loading height of 9 ft. 2 in., and a heaped capacity of 21.7 yd3. The high-strength body is constructed of thick, wear-resistant steel with 400 Brinell hardness, and the body shape affords excellent load stability and retention.

Other standard features include Komtrax II, provision for a tailgate, an electrically heated rear window, a payload counter and additional mirrors for better visibility. Komtrax-equipped trucks can send location, service meter readings and operation maps to secure websites utilizing wireless technology. Trucks also have the ability to relay error codes, maintenance items, fuel levels and much more.

More Comfort and Durability, Less Downtime

Komatsu designed an electronically controlled transmission for the HM300-2 ensuring a comfortable ride. The F6-R counter-shaft type transmission comes with K-ATOMiCS (Komatsu Advanced Transmission with Optimum Modulation Control System), a cutting-edge system that

assures smooth shifts without shock and maximizes power train life. The standard transmission shift hold button optimizes the operator control or the transmission will automatically shift through all gears.

For improved operator comfort, the wide, ergonomically designed cab is mounted on viscous mounts to absorb vibrations and noise and is integrated with the floor for better sealing and lower noise levels (76dB(A)). An air suspension seat is standard and additional front mirrors and large electronically operated windows provide superior visibility. Low-effort pedals reduce operator fatigue when working for long periods, and the tiltable, telescoping steering column enables optimum driving position at all times. An electric body dump control lever makes dumping easier than ever.

The HM300-2™s cab is tiltable 32 degrees towards the rear for easier service access, and has fewer grease points with the use of maintenance-free rubber bushings. Service intervals have been extended to minimize operating costs, with engine oil and filter changes required at 500 hours and transmission oil and filter changes at 1,000 hours.

Further enhancing the HM300-2™s durability is a standard guarding package, including:

  • A protective grill for the rear window

  • An engine underguard

  • A heavy duty transmission underguard

  • A propeller shaft guard

  • An exhaust thermal guard

  • Fire prevention covers

  • Rear tire guards

Combining Komatsu machines results in better cycle times, increased productivity and better parts availability. Because many components on the HM300-2 are Komatsu designed, many are interchangeable with other trucks and loaders aiding in parts availability. Komatsu offers several matches for the HM300-2 including the PC200LC-8, PC300LC-8 and PC400LC-8 hydraulic excavators as well as the WA320-5, WA380-5 and WA400-5 wheel loaders.
