Redesigned Welding Wire Excels on Vertical Down Applications

-Provides excellent weld puddle control

-Eliminates burn through

-Offers good wetting action

TROY, Ohio.  April 12, 2010—To improve vertical down welding performance and provide welding operators with greater control on on-shore transmission pipeline applications, Hobart Brothers offers its new Hobart® Fabshield® 81N1+ self-shielded flux-cored wire. The wire has been redesigned specifically for welding applications requiring high-impact toughness at low temperatures, including those comprised of X52, X65 and X70 steel, and it builds on the trusted technology of the company’s Fabshield 81N1 welding wire.

The Fabshield 81N1+ is an all-position wire that provides superior weldability, along with an excellent weld bead shape, especially when welding from the 4 o’clock to 7 o’clock position. According to Hobart Brothers’ engineers, the wire produces an easy- to-control weld puddle that allows even welding operators with modest experience to create sound welds. The wire provides good wetting action, while also preventing burn-through. In addition, with its easy-to-remove slag and low spatter levels, the Fabshield 81N1+ wire produces welds that require little or no grinding between weld passes, helping reduce post-weld cleanup and improve productivity.

The Fabshield 81N1+ wire provides a tensile strength of 78 ksi in the post-weld heat treated (PWHT) condition and creates welds with low diffusible hydrogen levels (5.45 ml/100g). Hobart Brothers offers the wire in 1/16-inch diameter on 14-lb coils.
