OSHA Gives TCIA Federal Grant to Help Train Workers

TCIAThe Tree Care Industry Association has received a federal grant from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The $139,528 grant was awarded through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, which provides grants to fund education and training for workers and employers to help them recognize workplace safety and health hazards, implement injury and illness prevention measures, and inform them of their right and responsibilities.

TCIA plans to use the grant to develop 3.5- and 6.5-hour electrical hazards and aerial lift safety training to workers and employers in the landscaping and tree care industries.

Training topics will include work practices near utility lines, and aerial lift inspections and operations. Workshops will be offered in English and Spanish, and will cater to small businesses and limited-English, low-literacy workers.
