Featuring a short tail-swing and patented “Knickmatik” function for excavation adjacent to existing infrastructure, the new Terex TC85 compact crawler excavator is now available in the United States, the company says.

Terex says the machine is capable of handling excavation jobs in tight work environments, with a short radius tail-swing and the “Knickmatic” boom offset that allows operators to dig alongside the machine’s own tracks.

Weighing 18,080 pounds, the TC85 excavator bucket capacities range from 3.1-10.8 cubic feet. Dig depth is 14 feet, 10 inches, while the bucket digging force totals 11,960 pounds force. The excavator has a reach of 25 feet, 4 inches.

Terex says the new model’s digging capability makes it a good fit for landscaping and general construction, as well as water and sewer, electric and utility jobs.

The manufacturer offers three track options for the TC85: rubber (standard), steel, and steel with rubber pads.

The new excavator is powered by a Tier 4 Final 75-horsepower 2.9L Deutz diesel with 221 foot-pounds of torque at 1,600 rpm. Terex notes that because the TC85 excavator meets emissions requirements through a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), there is no need for regeneration or to inject diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Auto engine stop comes standard and Terex offers an optional auto engine idle feature.

The excavator’s dual-circuit hydraulics system with load-independent flow distribution (LUDV) enables all functions to be controlled simultaneously and independently.

The articulated joint on the boom of the TC85 allows the machine to be moved to either side at full digging depth. With an articulation angle up to 120 degrees, Terex says, work can be carried out on the narrowest construction sites, alongside walls and on sloping terrain.

Two boom options are available: monobloc (standard) and circular (optional).

Terex says its new excavator also features a spacious, ergonomic and air-conditioned cab offering high visibility of the jobsite from the operator’s seat.
