Landscapers may want to check out a new product from Sika that is designed to quickly set posts for fences, mailboxes, flags, signs and other non-structural applications. Sika Post Fix is a two-part, pre-proportioned polyurethane resin that, when mixed, produces an expanding foam.

The company says Post Fix has been specifically formulated and packaged to provide a lightweight, mix-in-the-bag, high-strength backfill for wooden, PVC and steel in-ground supports. One small, self-contained package of Post Fix replaces two 50-pound bags of concrete mix, according to the manufacturer.

Using the product requires no special tools, water, heavy lifting or wait time, Sika says.

The package contains an internal seal between the two components of the mix. Once the seal is broken, the user mixes the two components vigorously for 20-30 seconds and then pours the contents around the post, which should be held steady for the three to five minutes it takes for the initial set. Sika cautions that the position of the post should not be adjusted after the formulation has been in the hole for 10 seconds.

The material is fully cured in about two hours, the manufacturer says. For more details, visit Sika’s website.
