Earlier in December, the National Association of Landscape Professionals was named Partner of the Year by the National Mall and Memorial Parks of the National Park Service.

The Partner of the Year Award is given annually to one or more partner organizations that have significantly impacted the National Mall. NALP was selected from more than 50 partner organizations that have volunteered on the National Mall in the past year.

The award was presented to NALP for work on the National Mall as part of its annual Renewal & Remembrance event in July when approximately 100 volunteers helped rehab the turf on the West Potomac Park ballfields and preserve the cherry trees near the Washington Monument.

“We were honored that the National Mall was chosen as a new location for NALP’s annual Renewal and Remembrance event,” said Emmanuel Ekekwe, volunteer program manager, National Mall, and Memorial Parks. “By bringing specialized skills to the National Mall, in conjunction with your professional communication, coordination, and generosity, you’ve made a lasting impact to the health of the beloved cherry trees and the National Mall’s ball fields.”

Bruce Allentuck, NALP Board Member and National Mall project lead, accepted the award. “I was proud and humbled to accept the award on behalf of NALP and its members,” Allentuck said. “It was a privilege to share our skills to help improve one of the most epic and important green spaces in our nation.”

NALP will continue the partnership with the National Mall, doing new volunteer service projects during next year’s Renewal & Remembrance event on July 18, 2022.

Horizon Distributors acquires Wingate Supply

Horizon Distributors, Inc., a full-service wholesale distributor of irrigation and landscape maintenance products, announced that it has acquired the assets of Wingate Supply, Inc., a Tampa, Florida-based distributor of landscaping materials, hardscape,  and stone products.  Wingate Supply operates one sales and distribution center in Tampa serving the southwest Florida market.

“Wingate Supply has served the southwest Florida landscape materials market for over forty years. Adding the Wingate Supply team and sales location to Horizon’s existing Florida sales centers enhances our presence in the fast-growing Tampa market and is a strong complement to last year’s addition of TWC Distributors to the Horizon South Florida presence. We are also very pleased that Odis Ward, Wingate Supply President, will continue on with us to lead the Wingate Supply business,” said Jeffrey Clay, Horizon President.

Odis Ward added: “Joining the Horizon organization will enhance Wingate Supply’s customers’ growth opportunities with expanded product offerings, services, and resources.  We appreciate the support from the many customers, vendors, and dedicated employees that we have had the privilege of working with over the past forty years.   We are excited to begin working with the Horizon team to ensure a smooth transition and a strong combined business going forward.”

Greenius expands landscaper training capabilities with integration into LMN Software

Landscape Management Network (LMN) has announced the next phase of its integration with Greenius to strengthen the company’s training solution offering for the landscape and snow removal industries.

Greenius is now integrated into LMN software, allowing customers to seamlessly begin landscaper training at the click of a button.

LMN customers will also receive Greenius training on a complimentary basis through March 2022, allowing thousands of contractors across the United States and Canada to experience the benefits of the training modules, safety measures, and landscaping courses for their employees.

“As we’ve worked with the Greenius team over the past four months and have connected with our customers, it's clear there is a great need for easy-to-use training videos that contractors can utilize to train and retain employees,” said Mark Bradley, CEO at LMN. “We’ve now built the integration between the two systems making access easy for our customers. It’s one step towards helping address the talent gap in the industry.”
