Inspired by their travels through Europe, the homeowners of this project in Michigan longed for a formal English garden of their own. To achieve this style, Ryan Youngblood, president of Artistic Landscape Associates, Rochester, Michigan, and his crew created features such as a circle garden with lavender, roses and tightly manicured boxwood hedges. The
array of formal plantings encompasses two custom-built iron and bronze arbors and an Old World stone statue. Adjacent to the garden, the pool area features a spa with a “floating” copper fire bowl and infinity edge, adjacent to a dry-laid bluestone deck. They also installed annuals, container plantings and perennials such as astilbe, bleeding hearts, painted ferns and autumn joy sedum around the pool area.
