Extraordinary transformation
Private residence, Tulsa, Oklahoma
Landscaping designed by Lloyd E. Trogdon & Associates, Tulsa, Oklahoma
Installation by Stone Age Manufacturing, Bixby, Oklahoma

When you step into the backyard of this suburban Tulsa home, it feels like you’re a thousand miles from nowhere. The homeowners wanted a space to show off their hospitality and love of entertaining. The fireplace is the main focus in the outdoor seating area, but can be seen from anywhere in the backyard and from inside the home. The natural stone retaining wall flows through the fireplace, encompasses the pool and turns into a beautiful waterfall. A backdrop of various tree, bush and plant species lend a natural feel to the overall hardscape design.

More room to live
Private residence, Setauket, New York
Landscaping designed and installed by StoneGate Landscape Construction, E. Setauket, New York

This client recently moved into this north shore Long Island home, and was disappointed to find the existing layout did not afford space for entertaining or a usable lawn area for recreation. The site included a small patio level and a built-in pool on an upper level. The new design encompasses an extension to the existing patio, large stone slab steps to the pool level, the transplant of existing material and a boulder retaining wall. An irregular bluestone walkway leads to the pool steps, and the red maple at the top of the steps was transplanted from an old location to celebrate the entrance of the pool area.

Price: $50,000

Pool patio offers space to play
Private residence, Milford, Connecticut
Landscaping designed and installed by Land Designs Unlimited, Trumbull, Connecticut

This retaining wall and patio were built to maximize enjoyment of the pool and back yard. The homeowners sought a functional pool patio to provide a stage for their yearly block party, while allowing access to the lawn areas of the yard. The retaining wall fades into the hillside and provides a lower level for sports activities and children’s play. The patio includes a large area close to the house for group activities and dining, while a smaller seating area provides a more intimate setting.
