Quick Data is a snapshot of new and used skid steer sales trends from Fusable’s EDA equipment financing data and EquipmentWatch market trend and auction price reports.
Skid steer loader sales declined over the last 12 months, as buyers continue to shift toward more versatile compact track loaders.
New financed skid steer loaders posted a 9.6% year-over-year decrease, with 9,465 units sold from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026, according to Fusable's EDA equipment finance data. The wheeled machines accounted for just 14.5% of the more than 65,000 combined new CTLs and SSLs financed during the period.
The used market also saw declines with 8,511 units sold, a more modest 1.9% drop year over year. EDA does not track equipment purchased in cash or with letters of credit, which is more common with compact equipment.
Buyers continue to exercise caution with capital investments as interest rates remain persistently high, the ag economy remains strained, and construction starts are slower than expected.
Despite the declines, skid steers tend to be popular in agriculture, road construction and urban environments that demand maneuverability in tight spaces and the ability to run high-powered attachments, such as cold planers.
Major manufacturers retained their strongholds on the market, with Bobcat, Caterpillar, Kubota, Deere and Case emerging as the top five sellers of new financed skid steers.

EquipmentWatch defines fair market value (FMV) as the monetary value of an asset that can be expected in a transaction with a single seller and single buyer, neither of whom is under any compulsion or time restriction to complete the transaction. FMV for heavy equipment is most closely associated with the private, resale market, as opposed to the public, auction market.
