New Caterpillar H180Ds Hydraulic Hammer Delivers High Productivity and Reliability in an Easy-To-Service Package

Updated Sep 22, 2010

The Caterpillar® H180Ds hydraulic hammer is designed to deliver superior breaking productivity and to minimize downtime through the use of a number of innovative features. Compared to the previous model, the piston and tool have been increased in size for a 15 percent increase in productivity performance that sets the H180D s apart in its weight class. The hammer weighs 8,600 pounds (3900 kg) and is ideally matched to Cat® 345C and 365C hydraulic excavators. A wide oil flow range accommodates comparably sized competitive machines.

Durable high performance

The Auto Shut Off (ASO) feature turns the hammer off when no material is present beneath it. ASO extends the reliability and durability of the hammer by reducing the high stress levels caused by blank firing.

The heavy-duty suspension system significantly reduces shock loads transmitted to the machine during hammer operation to improve operator comfort and extend life of critical machine components. Standard sound suppression improves operator comfort and environmental protection.

The H180Ds features larger heavy-duty tie rods to accommodate the increase in performance. Full-length wear plates on all four sides of the inner housing increase the guidance and the stability of the power cell.  The wear plate design also enhances durability, and visual wear indicators ease maintenance.

Enhanced serviceability

Caterpillar hammer settings are preprogrammed in Cat excavator tool control systems for easy set up.  The engine dial position settings, hydraulic oil temperature alarm, oil flow and pressure are fully adjustable in the tool control program. Actual hammer working hours can also be recorded for routine maintenance purposes.

The hammer housing incorporates a rock claw made of Hardox® 400 to minimize abrasive wear and reduce overall owning and operating costs.  There are no exposed cross bolts, and a field replaceable dust seal in the lower bushing prevents debris and dust from entering the power cell.  The lower bushing itself is field replaceable without the need for special tools. The bushing can be rotated 90 degrees at the job site to double component life.

All Cat hammers have sealed accumulators, which eliminates the need for frequent recharging. The result is increased uptime and high performance blow after blow.
