Ditch Witch RT36 and RT40 Trenchers Have History On Their Side

Updated Oct 1, 2010

The RT36’s integrated cooled engine is rated at 36 net horsepower (26.9 kW) and features a solid-mounted, manifold muffler integrated on the engine’s side, which also results in quieter performance. The mechanical, dedicated trencher has an available center-mount utility backhoe and either four- or six-way backfill blades. Because its digging and ground drives adjust independently, the RT36 can quickly adapt to different soils.

The hydrostatic, modular RT40 is equipped to run multiple attachments, including a backhoe, trencher, saw, plow, or combination trencher/plow. Its powerful, oil-cooled engine is rated at 42.2 gross horsepower (31.5 kW) and features a larger, isolator-mounted, horizontal muffler with a vertical stack. This design, combined with the RT40’s fiberglass hood, minimizes the machine’s noise and increases operator comfort.

Both machines require minimal effort to learn how to operate. Speed/direction and attachment controls are grouped together for easy access, and the backfill blade is controlled by a highly responsive joystick. The friction-controlled throttle requires less effort to move the throttle lever, and the backhoe features a new and improved throttle cable.

Maintaining the RT40 and RT36 also requires less effort, thanks to easily accessible routine maintenance and service points and high-efficiency engines that only need an oil change every 500 operational hours, double the old standard of 250.

Powerful enough for the big jobs but compact enough to work on small jobsites, the RT40 and RT36 were built with electricians, plumbers, utility contractors, and rental yard owners in mind.
