BOMAG Single-Drum Roller Redesigned for the Rental Market

Updated Oct 6, 2010

KEWANEE (Ill.) BOMAG has redesigned its 47-inch single-drum vibratory rollers to give them more standard features popular in the rental industry and among cost-conscious contractors.

With their compact design, the new BW124-40 series rollers are versatile and maneuverable, yet offer capabilities and features similar to larger models. The series consists of two models: the BW124DH-40 smooth drum roller and the BW124PDH-40 padfoot roller. An optional leveling blade adds versatility to the series.

With standard ROPS/FOPS with sun canopy and seatbelts, the BW124-40 series offers improved safety and comfort. The new rollers have also been outfitted with powerful Tier 3 Deutz diesel engines, enabling them to handle the most demanding applications.

What hasn’t changed about the BW124-40 series is the productivity and output it achieves despite its size.  With its high centrifugal force and high amplitude, the rollers effectively compact granular and mixed soils as well as semi-cohesive and cohesive materials. No-spin rear differentials and standard drum drive achieve maximum gradeability. The bolt-on, maintenance-free articulation joint offers unmatched maneuverability and maintains drum contact on irregular terrain.

Other features of the BW124-40 series make the rollers safer and easier to handle. The ergonomic cockpit features a simple, clear instrument panel, intuitive controls and an adjustable seat. It also provides clear, all-around visibility for greater jobsite safety. The operator’s platform is isolated from vibration by rubber buffer solid block isolators, resulting in less operator fatigue and greater productivity.

The BW124-40 series is also easy to service and maintain. The vertically opening hood provides easy access to the engine and all components, and locks to prevent damage and vandalism. Hydraulic hoses are also protected.  The vibratory drum mechanism and spring applied hydraulically released brakes are virtually maintenance free. Recessed drum frame bolts permit operation near obstacles, and the dual drum scrapers keep the drums clear of dirt and debris.
