Volvo SD25 Compactors Provide Small Package Agility and Performance

Updated Oct 6, 2010

The 2.6-ton Volvo SD25 soil compactor can easily get in and out of four-foot trenches, and with the patented clamp-on padfoot shell kit, its versatility makes it great for compacting various materials. The size of the SD25 makes it the right machine for commercial and residential site development, roads, streets, driveways, small parking lots and landscaping jobs.

The SD25D is a smooth drum model that performs best in granular soils, mixed soils and aggregates. This soil compactor has an operating weight of 5,650 pounds (2562 kilograms), with a drum diameter of 31 inches (787 millimeters) and a drum width 42 inches (1067 millimeters). This model has a drum weight of 2,850 pounds (1292 kilograms) and a centrifugal force of 14,020 pounds (62 kilonewtons). Its amplitude is 0.062 inches (1.57 millimeters) at a frequency of 2,200 vibrations per minute (36.7 hertz). A clamp-on padfoot shell kit is available for this model, giving users more jobsite versatility with one machine. The SD25D has a theoretical gradeability of 60 percent.

The SD25F is a padfoot drum model that achieves the best results in cohesive soils. The SD25F soil compactor has an operating weight of 5,920 pounds (2685 kilograms), with a drum diameter of 31 inches (787 millimeters) and a drum width 42 inches (1067 millimeters). This model has 45 pad feet, each 2.5 inches (64 millimeters) in height, and a drum weight of 3,120 pounds (1415 kilograms). With a centrifugal force of 12,500 pounds (55.6 kilonewtons), the SD25F reaches an amplitude of 0.055 inches(1.4 millimeters) at a frequency of 2,200 vibrations per minute (36.7 hertz). This model has a theoretical gradeability of 50 percent.

Both models are powered by a 44-horsepower (32.8-kilowatt), Tier 2, Kubota four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The centrifugal force and static drum weight of both SD25 models provide excellent drum performance. Both models have hydrostatic propulsion with a Twin-Lock torque transfer system and a low-speed, high-torque motor on the drum and wheels for improved gradeability.

Both SD25D and SD25F soil compactor models come standard with ROPS / FOPS and seat belts; safety features such as a back-up alarm, safety rails and seat switch; and a durable, skid-resistant operator’s platform that is vibration-isolated (by four rubber isolators) for operator comfort. These units offer excellent visibility – “ONE METER BY ONE METER” all around the machines, as well as have a + / – 35 degree articulation angle and a + / – 12 degree oscillation angle.

Options available on SD25 soil compactors include two-way or four-way, U-shaped strike-off blades, an inside front drum scraper bar, a rotating beacon light, tires with diamond tread, a universal front drum scraper, vandal cover and working lights – two front, two rear-mounted on top of the ROPS / FOPS.

The Attachments Idea Book
