New HYPAC Tandem Rollers Feature Intuitive Controls, Improved Ergonomics

Updated Oct 6, 2010

LAS VEGAS The C766D and C778D tandem drum rollers from HYPAC feature a redesigned operator’s cockpit that provides superior comfort and control, resulting in improved efficiency and productivity. The new rollers will be on display at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas, March 11-15, 2008.

With an innovative sliding/swivel seat, the rollers’ cockpit allows the operator to quickly adjust positions without switching seats while providing a clear view of the roller drum edges. The comfortable seat reduces operator fatigue, with ergonomic, intuitive joystick controls that reverse automatically when the seat position is reversed, providing natural right/left, forward/back control. An easy-to-read instrument cluster provides responsive feedback of machine vitals and mat conditions.

The new C766D and C778D also have advanced features that make them more economical and environmentally friendly. The rollers are equipped with 130-horsepower Cummins QSB4.5 Tier 3 diesel engines featuring an innovative ECO-Mode system that automatically matches engine speed to roller operation, idling the engine during pauses and breaks. This can reduce fuel costs by as much as 20 percent while lowering jobsite noise.

The C766D has a 66-inch drum width and a maximum centrifugal force of 32,800 pounds while the C778D has a drum width of 78 inches and a maximum centrifugal force of 37,100 pounds. An increase in maximum frequency from 3,800 to 4,000 vibrations per minute (vpm) allows the new rollers to work quickly to achieve density on Superpave mixes. The vibration frequency is infinitely variable from 2,500 to 4,000 vpm, allowing the rollers to be used in a wide variety of applications.

The rollers provide instant feedback to the operator to allow constant monitoring of amplitude, frequency, impact spacing and mat temperature. The speed limiter allows the operator to set maximum working speed while the vibration auto on/off ensures total repeatability of system settings and rolling patterns.

Additional features on the C766D and C778D include a single hood for easy service access from a standing position, flush-mounted ROPS/FOPS for ease of working next to walls and guard rails, block-type drum isolators, hinged scraper bars and improved optional night paving lights. Larger water tanks on the new rollers permit longer operation between refills, while new nozzles and an interval water spray system reduce water use.
