KOMATSU™S D61EX/PX-15 Crawler Dozers Bring Power Productivity And Comfort

Rolling Meadows, IL April 3, 2007Komatsu America Corp. (KAC) announces the D61EX-15 and D61PX-15 crawler dozers designed for work in construction, site preparation, home building, forestry, utility and quarry applications. The SAA6D107E-1 engine with air-to-air after-cooler has a flywheel horsepower of 168 HP, is Tier 3 EPA emissions certified and machines range in operating weight from 36,840 to 41,250 lb depending on the model. Both standard (EX) and low ground pressure (PX) models are available to offer contractors maximum weight distribution/flotation options to match their application.

The D61EX/PX-15 is also equipped with the latest KomtraxTM technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure website utilizing wireless technology.  Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis.  The Komtrax fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote monitoring, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiently and productively.

Special features of the D61EX/PX-15 include:

  •         Komatsu™s Hydrostatic Steering System (HSS) provides smooth, quick and powerful control in varying ground conditions when dozing ultimately keeping more material on the blade and making operators more productive. The large power angle tilt blade offers a capacity of 4.5 yd3 for the D61EX-15 and 5.0 yd3 for the D61PX-15. Large multi-shank rippers capable of ripping more than two feet below the surface add an extra dimension of productivity, making the D61 effective in even the hardest, rockiest conditions.

  •         Komatsu™s Palm Command Control System (PCCS), is ergonomically designed not only to provide efficient operation, but also enhances operator comfort. The Palm Command Control System travel joystick allows the operator to maintain a relaxed posture without sacrificing control. The blade control joystick utilizes the Proportional Pressure Control (PPC) valve, and when combined with HSS allows for fine control of machine operations.

  •         Electronically controlled, variable speed hydraulically driven engine cooling fan conserves horsepower and eliminates belts and other service parts. The fan can be reversed from inside the cab for easy radiator cleanout.

  •         Komatsu™s torqflow transmission (planetary gear multi-disc, hydraulically actuated) automatically adjusts each clutch engagement per travel conditions such as gear speed, revolution and shifting patterns through Komatsu™s Electronic Controlled Modulation Valve

  •         Electronic Control Modulation Valve (ECMV). The ECMV provides smooth, shock less clutch engagement for improved component reliability, longer life, and a smoother ride for the operator.

Operator Comfort

The new hexagonal shape of Komatsu™s dozer cab, designed with large, tinted glass windows, provides more room for the operator and expands front, side and rear visibility, for increased operator comfort. Internal air pressure and air filters prevent dust from entering the cab, and new cab damper mounts suppress noise and vibration when traveling over rough terrain. A newly designed, fully adjustable, high back suspension seat offers improved fore and aft sliding rails, while a new suspension spring provides increased strength and rigidity.  An optional seat can adjust 15 degrees to the right for increased visibility during reverse operations.

Easy Maintenance and Serviceability

The D61 features conveniently located maintenance points for quick and easy inspection and maintenance. Transmission and HSS oil filters, power train oil level gauges and the hydraulic tank all are arranged on the right side of the machine. Large opening gull-wing engine side doors provide quick and easy access to the engine and critical filters. These side doors consist of a thicker, more durable one-piece structure to protect critical components. Other items aiding in maintenance efficiency and machine durability include:

  •         Longer intervals between engine and hydraulic oil changes (both over previous models and the competition), resulting in increased up time and productivity.

  •         Power train components sealed in a modular design, allowing components to be mounted and dismounted without spillage.

  •         Wet, multiple-disc braking system eliminates adjustments and track life is improved through increased bushing diameter, link height and a lubricated track for minimized wear.
