Caterpillar Introduces New Emission-Compliant 1.5 Liter Diesel For Agricultural, Construction and Outdoor Power Equipment Applications

Louisville, Ky, October 6 Caterpillar introduced a new, compact diesel engine optimized for agricultural, construction, turf care, and outdoor power equipment applications at the 2006 International Lawn, Garden, & Power Equipment Expo here today.

The new Cat® C1.5 engine is a 3-cylinder, 1.5 liter, turbocharged unit producing 40.2 bhp (30 bkW) and 83 lb/ft (112Nm) of torque at 1800 rpm from a package weighing only 345 lbs (156 kg) and occupying only 6.36 ft3 (0.18m3) of space.

The new C1.5 engine meets existing Tier 3/Stage IIIA emission standards for North America and Europe and is designed as a solid core engine platform to tackle future emissions requirements.

The C1.5 combines extremely high power density with a wide range of configuration options to meet the needs of the markets for which it is intended, said Caterpillar marketing manager Mike Reinhart.  It can be ordered with a high or low fan mounting, a special low-noise fan, electronic governor, and many other options that are important to OEMs.”

It also offers traditional Cat performance and reliability with a very low cost of ownership.  It has the same 500-hour service interval as our other engines, and offers the same single-side access for all service functions.”

It™s light, compact, powerful, and reliable, Reinhart added, all features that will support OEMs in the ongoing worldwide switch from gasoline to diesel power for small and medium sized construction, agricultural, turf maintenance, and outdoor power equipment.
