New Cat® 315D L Excavator Features More Power and Efficiency, Expanded Versatility and Operator-Friendly Work Environment

Caterpillar introduces the 315D L Excavator, a high-performance, easy-to-operate machine that delivers 5 percent more horsepower and as much as 8 percent more lift capacity than the 315C L, which it replaces. Higher hydraulic pressures boost performance and efficiency, and the new 115-horsepower (86-kilowatt) engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 3 emissions regulations and delivers more work per gallon of fuel.

A number of new features extend versatility. The machine leaves the factory ready for fast, economical installation of auxiliary hydraulic circuits, making it an ideal choice for users who do many jobs with one machine. The Cat Tool Control System stores hydraulic flow and pressure for as many as 10 different work tools.

The 315D L features the same spacious and comfortable cab found on larger Caterpillar® excavators. It offers a quiet and well-ventilated place to work, and it comes with a supportive seat, standard air conditioning and low-effort joystick controls. As on the 315C L, work and power mode switches have been replaced with an automated boom and swing priority function that selects the proper mode based on joystick movement. This feature helps less experienced operators and veterans work more productively. A new monitor relays information in text form to improve communication between the operator and the machine. Messages can be displayed in 27 languages to accommodate the increasingly diverse workforce.

Quick, powerful and efficient
The new excavator is equipped with a Cat C4.2 engine with ACERT® Technology. It meets worldwide emissions regulations while delivering outstanding performance, excellent fuel economy and long life. A 5 percent net horsepower increase allows the use of higher hydraulic pressures for reduced cycle times, increased breakout force and greater lift capacity.

Auxiliary hydraulic and electrical lines are routed to the boom foot for faster, more economical installation of additional hydraulic circuits. A boom and stick regeneration circuit saves energy during boom-down and stick-in operations, further increasing efficiency and lowering operating costs.

More jobs with one machine
For maximum versatility, the 315D L has four stick options, including the new intermediate-sized 9-foot 6-inch (2.9-meter) stick that increases lift capacity and breakout force for those that equip their machines with multiple work tools. The excavator accommodates a full range of one- and two-way work tools. An optional Pin Grabber Coupler allows quick tool changes from the cab. The standard Cat Tool Control System lets the operator pre-set hydraulic flow and pressure for as many as 10 different work tools using the in-cab monitor. The tools can then be used at the touch of a button.

Low owning and operating costs
Many features make the 315D L economical to own and operate. An economy mode reduces fuel consumption in light-duty applications, while maintaining high bucket forces and lift capacity. Grease lubricated track offers long wear life at lower total cost. Easy-access service points and extended maintenance intervals increase uptime and drive down operating costs.

Value-adding options
A large selection of options makes the 315D L an even more valuable asset. AccuGrade® grade control system helps operators at any skill level work faster and more accurately. An electronic cab avoidance function prevents damage resulting from contact between the cab, front linkage and bucket. An e-ceiling function protects against interference with overhead obstacles. Machine Security System deters theft, vandalism and unauthorized usage, and Product Link serves as a machine tracking and asset management tool.
