New Caterpillar® 312D L Excavator Features Best in Class Versatility, Spacious Cab, More Powerful Hydraulics and Low-Emissions Engine

The Cat® 312D L Excavator incorporates new features that increase utilization and productivity and reduce operating costs”while retaining the best features of its proven predecessor, the 312C L. Several enhancements expand versatility. The 312D L can be shipped from the factory with an optional, industry-leading auxiliary hydraulics system ready to work with a full range of Cat® or aftermarket work tools, making it an ideal choice for operators demanding a lot of versatility from one machine. The standard machine is shipped auxiliary hydraulics ready, significantly reducing downtime and expense associated with upgrading the hydraulics in the field. A new, intermediate stick length increases lift capacity and breakout force for customers equipping their machines with multiple work tools and/or quick couplers. The industry leading Cat® Tool Control System stores pressure and flow settings for up to 10 different work tools making tool changes faster and easier than ever before.

The 312D L is equipped with the same spacious and comfortable cab found on larger Cat excavators. Its 90-horsepower (67-kilowatt) Cat C4.2 engine with ACERT® Technology meets U.S. EPA Tier 3 emissions regulations and a slightly higher hydraulic system pressure boosts lifting and digging performance.

Versatile and operator friendly
The 312D L accommodates a full range of mechanical and hydra-mechanical work tools. An optional, factory installed Cat Pin Grabber Coupler allows quick tool changes from the cab. The Cat Tool Control System lets the operator use the in-cab monitor to select and store complete hydraulic settings for up to 10 work tools (flow and pressure), preventing downtime associated with resetting relief pressures, flow direction and flow rates.

The new monitor relays information in text form to improve communication between the operator and the machine. Messages can be displayed in 27 languages to accommodate the increasingly diverse workforce.

Operators will appreciate the new cab on the 312D L. A spacious, quiet and well-ventilated place to work, it comes with a supportive seat, standard air conditioning and low-effort joystick controls. As on the 312C L, multiple work and power modes are not required, maintaining a simple start and go operating environment for the operator. An automatic boom and swing priority function selects the proper mode based on joystick movement. This feature is time tested and helps less experienced operators and veterans alike work more productively.

Fast, efficient and economical
The new excavator features the Cat C4.2 engine, which meets worldwide emissions regulations while delivering outstanding performance, lower fuel consumption, solid reliability and long life.

An updated hydraulic system with two percent more pressure available delivers faster cycle times, higher breakout force and more lift capacity. Auxiliary hydraulic and electrical lines are already routed to the boom foot for faster, more economical installation of additional hydraulic circuits in the field. A boom and stick regeneration circuit saves energy during boom-down and stick-in operations, further increasing efficiency and lowering operating costs.

Many features make the 312D L economical to own and operate. An economy mode reduces fuel consumption in light-duty applications, while maintaining high bucket forces and lift capacity. Grease Lubricated Track offers long wear life at lower total cost. Easy-access service points and extended maintenance intervals increase uptime and drive down operating costs.

Value-adding options
A large selection of options makes the 312D L an even more valuable asset. The AccuGradeTM grade control system helps operators at any skill level work faster and more accurately. An electronic cab avoidance function prevents damage resulting from contact between the cab, front linkage and bucket. An e-ceiling function protects against interference with overhead obstacles. Machine Security System deters theft, vandalism and unauthorized usage, and Product Link serves as a machine tracking and asset management tool.
