Miller™s Digital Elite Auto-Darkening Helmets Differentiate between Arc and Sunlight in Outdoor Construction/Repair Applications

  • Ideal for applications including steel erection, pipe welding and outdoor field repair

  • Features precise digital controls

  • Four programmable modes: Welding, Cutting, Grinding, X-Mode

APPLETON, Wis. November 4, 2008”Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced its new Digital Elite Series auto-darkening welding helmets with X-mode technology that automatically differentiates between sunlight and the welding arc in outdoor construction applications. Ideal for steel erection, pipeline construction and heavy equipment repair, the Digital Elite Series enables workers to see through the lens while not welding and offers the flexibility of using one helmet for welding, cutting and grinding while outdoors.

Previous generations of auto-darkening helmets confuse sunlight with the welding arc and automatically darken when there is not a welding arc present, which renders the auto-darkening technology useless. The X-Mode technology electromagnetically senses the arc and provides protection when the traditional arc sensors are blocked, a common occurrence in out-of-position repairs, pipe welding, or in obstructed or hidden-cavity welds. With its digital controls, the Digital Elite helmet allows users to quickly switch between four modes”Welding, Cutting, Grinding and X-Mode”while retaining their preferences for shade, sensitivity and delay.

Digital Elite Sets Benchmark for Quick Response, Ergonomics

Building on Miller™s Elite Series of auto-darkening helmets, the Digital Elite design features four independent arc sensors that respond in 1/20,000th of a second and comes standard with an Auto-Off feature. The helmets are lightweight (18 oz.), durable and comfortable, and come complete with five outside and two inside replacement cover lenses, a Miller-exclusive fatigue-reducing comfort cushion and helmet bag.

Digital Elite helmets are available in five graphic designs and are available through welding supply distributors in the US and Canadian markets with an MSRP of $359 for the classic Black design and $389 for a graphic design. Prices will vary by distributor. Miller Auto-Darkening Helmets are covered by a two-year warranty.
