OTC® Introduces New Pegisys PC Diagnostic System

Owatonna, MN ” April 28, 2009 ” OTC, an SPX® brand, today introduced its new Pegisys PC Diagnostic System (P/N 3828), a first of its kind aftermarket, PC-based J2534 reprogramming and scan tool”in one”that offers the same wireless technology and software as the innovative OTC Pegisys, but now with added J2534 reprogramming capabilities that technicians can run from their shop™s own laptop.

Built for technicians who prefer a PC-based diagnostic solution over a conventional hand-held scan tool, the new Pegisys PC Diagnostic System integrates 27 years of vehicle coverage (1980-2007) for 44 different vehicle makes from more than 25 different manufacturers, said Ed Lipscomb, OTC Senior Product Manager of Diagnostic Systems. It comes with expanded Pathfinder Troubleshooting, enhanced USA Domestic, Asian vehicle software, and European and Heavy-Duty coverage is optional.

The PC Scan™s open architecture enables technicians to fundamentally change the way they operate and control their diagnostic systems. For users who have an understanding of computer technology and can embrace this change, the use of an open-architecture environment offers them the option to run specialized software in conjunction with a laptop PC of their choice in place of the Pegisys tool to allow scan tool and reprogramming functionality.

Collectively as a package, the new OTC 3828 provides two tools in one”a high-end wireless diagnostic tool with Internet capability and a J2534 compliant device for vehicle reprogramming”thus eliminating the need to purchase two separate tools while providing more value for less money.

With reprogramming becoming more and more prevalent in the automotive industry, having J2534 reprogramming capabilities is a must for any forward-thinking shop, said Lipscomb. And unlike similar reprogramming scan tools in the market, the OTC Pegisys PC Diagnostic System is both SAE J2534-1 and -2 compliant.

The OEM-based enhanced PC scan tool from OTC comes complete with everything needed to connect a PC or laptop to OBD-II compliant cars. No other diagnostic equipment is required. The package includes the unique Modular Vehicle Communication Interface (MVCI) with exclusive AirBridge Wireless Technology that supports the very latest technology and industry standards. Airbridge Wireless WiFi provides freedom from cable tethers to the car, allowing technicians the ability to move freely while scanning the vehicle from anywhere within a 30-foot radius.

With exclusive AirBridge technology inside, the intuitive MVCI supports WiFi connectivity to the Internet*, offering immediate access to real-time Web-enabled diagnostic assets right from the PC. Secure Digital Input / Output (SDIO) 802.11b/g mini cards supply high-speed WiFi communications between the PC and the intuitive VCI. Additional features include Bluetooth capability, SpeedScroll Touch Control with an LCD display, a built-in rechargeable battery, USB, Ethernet, and USB On-The-Go.

The new Pegisys PC Diagnostic System provides the same powerful enhanced vehicle coverage as Pegisys, including the new Direct-Hit Technician, powered by Identifix®, which is optional and requires Internet connection. The PC Diagnostic Master Kit (P/N 3828DLX), with Domestic and Asian coverage, is sold with six months of free coverage and enhancement downloads after registration. European and Heavy Duty software is optional.

For existing Pegisys owners, the J2534 Reprogramming Software Kit (P/N 3825-08) offers the ability to perform J2534 reprogramming and includes the necessary software and security card to authorize J2534 functionality. This is a one-time authorization and not a subscription or recurring fee. Owners of Pegisys 3825 Kits can turn on the J2534 functionality with this kit.

For technicians that prefer a PC-based diagnostic solution with J2534-1 and J2543-2 reprogramming capability over a conventional hand-held scan tool; or for shops looking for a powerful scan tool that will quickly find the problem when a diagnostic scan or a calibration reprogramming is required”take a good look at the new Pegisys PC Diagnostic System from OTC.
