The JT520 is a direct result of customer requests for a small footprint directional drilling system with greater maneuverability for work in urban and residential areas. The complete system can be pulled behind a 3/4-ton pickup truck and fits through a 36-inch (91 cm) yard gate.
The JT520™s 28.5 horsepower (21.3 kW) diesel engine delivers 5000 pounds (22.2 kN) of pullback force. The JT520 can pull 2-inch (50 mm) or smaller diameter conduit up to 150 feet (46 m) depending on soil conditions, and is capable of completing multiple installations per day. Operation of this unit requires only two crew members: a tracking equipment operator and a seated drilling operator. The drilling operator can manage the comparatively lighter weight, 16-pound (7.3 kg) drill pipe without help. It is directed toward curb-to-house fiber optic connections, directional street crossings, and water service replacements.
The JT520 has the same reliable features seen in the larger Jet Trac units, including a single-lever thrust and rotation control, flat style breakout system, high horsepower for its compact size, and a diesel engine. Fluid, thrust/pullback and rotation all can be run simultaneously with plenty of power for all functions.
